Sarah & Jon - 14th August 2010

The Wedding

Met Sarah (our bride) down at Brownz hairdressers in Horninglow, Burton-on-Trent where she, her mum and sister were all getting their hair made up for the big day. Sarah had gone for an “up do” made of barrel curls finished off with a delicate crystal tiara. They had finished earlier than expected so it was back to Sarah's mum's house to finish off getting ready. Meanwhile, Barry was on his way to Shenstone to film the groom, Jon and the rest of the gang getting ready. Back at the house it was time for cup of tea and a chat! Sarah was really relaxed about the whole day. Mind you the wedding had been planned over 3 years! Sarah chose her sister as her maid of honour, her nephew as her page boy and Jon's baby grand daughter also dressed up in an ivory tulle dress. Jon chose 3 best men and 2 ushers.

It was a special wedding day too as Sarah & Jon took the plunge a while ago and emigrated to Australia and will be returning back to Oz shortly. Family and friends all attended to make the most of Sarah & Jon's returning visit to the UK and of course see them at long last getting married. Sarah looked stunning in her Romantica of Devon dress in champagne with lace and crystal detail on the bodice with a chapel length train with further crystal detail. Sarah travelled to the church in a burgundy and cream Beauford with Jon arriving in a cream Daimler.

Sarah and Jon held their ceremony at St Mary's Church, Tutbury, which dates back to the 11 th century with the west door looking directly towards Tutbury Castle's North Tower . Prior to Henry VIII's reign the church served as a Priory and Parish Church and was much bigger then than it is today. The ceremony was carried out by Rev'd Alexandrina Mann with music during the signing of the registers provided by the wonderful Choral group, Gem who were fantastic.

Sarah and Jon's table décor was stylish yet simple and beautifully coordinated. The cake looked every bit delicious being 3 layered tiers covered in smooth white icing finished off by a champagne coloured bow with a vintage brooch, simple yet effective. As the couple prepared for the first dance, dancing to Mack the Knife they certainly made use of the dance floor with their footsteps a well rehearsed first dance!

The Venue

The happy couple held their reception at Tutbury Castle in the village town of Tutbury , Staffordshire. The castle dates back to approximately the 11th Century but was destroyed during a rebellion in 1264. The castle was rebuilt in the 14th and 15th Centuries. Tutbury Castle was once the home of Mary Queen of Scots who was imprisoned at the castle on two occasions before her execution at Fotheringhay Castle in 1587. Today the castle is mostly ruins but is open to the public for a small fee. Tutbury Castle is licenced to conduct civil ceremonies, which take place in the Great Hall and can seat up to 40 guests. The onsite marquee can hold up to 200 guests for a wedding reception.
